"Taps" is a bugle call T- a signal, not a song. As such, there is no associated lyric. Many bugle calls had words associated with them as a mnemonic device but these are not lyrics.

Horace Lorenzo Trim wrote a set of words intended to accompany the music:

Day is done, gone the sun,
 From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
 All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Fading light, dims the sight,
 And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
 From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.

Thanks and praise, for our days,
 'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, 'neath the sky;
 As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

Sun has set, shadows come,
 Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
 Always true to the promise that they made.

While the light fades from sight,
 And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
 To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

Margaret, Crystal, and Sonny, we have had a lot of losses this year and it never gets easier. Brian is present in most of my childhood memories and he was always so good to all of us, as if we were his own blood. I will never forget the weekend bbqs by the pool and his big smile whenever we saw him. He will always be my uncle Brian and he is the reason I was a Raider fan. Because if my tough uncle Brian liked the Raiders, then I had to like Raiders. We will all miss him and I hope that now wherever he is he is painless and at peace. Lots of love to you all.
